Eco Friendly Cars

There are all manners of issues related to the word environmental but the most common one is climate change. Climate change is considered the biggest environmental issue that is challenging the world today.

What role does the modern motor vehicle have on our destruction of the planet. Many people have taken the choice to try and cut down on their "carbon footprint" and switch to cars that cause less damage to the enviroment and are not as reliant on fossil fuels.

Some of the many new types are cars that are starting to begin manufacture on a commercial basis include:

- Biofuel

- Electric Cars

- Hybrid

What could happen if we continue as we are?

The fear is that an increase in temperatures around the globe will change weather patterns, raise sea levels and bring about a rise in the intensity and frequency of more extreme weather. When we refer to climate we refer to the average weather experienced during a certain period, including temperature.

The climate of the Earth has changed many times since its birth, most often due to natural causes, but the fear now is that humans are having a great effect on current rises in the Earth’s temperature. Over the last hundred years the Earth has warmed by 0.74 degrees Celsius. Before the 1970s, this was only 0.70 degrees Celsius.

Pollution of our air
Man-made pollution is often cited as the cause. A widely held belief is that the Earth may never have warmed as fast as it has over the past 25 years and Scientists have left organisations such as Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) without doubt that humans are to blame. Allegedly man-made pollution leaves a layer of cloud in the Earth’s atmosphere meaning that rays from the sun can get in, but they cannot get out, effectively trapping the heat.

Before it is too late
In the UK, climate change would mean hotter, drier summers that would include more heat waves, and milder wetter winters. There would also be higher sea levels and an incresed flood risk to coastal areas. Scientists point to area where these sort of things are already happening. Glaciers in the alps are disappearing and droughts in the Mediterranean are worsening. Permafrost is melting in Siberia, causing roads to buckle. As the oceans warm and the ice melts, the sea levels begin to rise.

What is being done
Local councils in the UK are already taking action to help issues in the Environment, not just in terms of climate change, but other concerns such as renewable energy resources. Windfarms are appearing all over the country to take the burden off of nuclear power stations, this not only avoids pollutions, but again solves the issue of renewable energy. Recycling is also being promoted in all sectors.

Whether man is to blame for climate change or not, the Earth naturally changes its climate every so often, so there’s no doubt in some people’s eyes that something more will have to be done.
